How to get to Val d'Isère

Plan your route to get to Val d’Isère! Your holiday in Val d’Isère is just a few months, weeks or even days away. Here you’ll find all the information you need to plan your trip.

Resort certified by Flocon Vert

We care about the environmental impact of visitors’ journeys to our beautiful village.

This is why we suggest you give priority to the most eco-friendly means of transport.

In addition, everything in Val d’Isère can be reached on foot and our free buses run on a regular basis, both winter and summer, to help you travel quickly and easily from one end of the resort to another.

Coming by train

If you want to avoid the traffic jams, then the train is your ideal solution.

The nearest train station is Bourg-Saint-Maurice (40 minutes away) where there are plenty of rail services including high-speed trains (TGV, Eurostar, Thalys).

Coming by bus

The bus might be the most practical and cheapest solution, and you won’t have to worry about finding a parking space.

For a stress-free trip, book your seat now!

Coming by car Think carshare!

Both ecofriendly and economical, this is a great way to meet new people who are likely to share your passion for the mountains!

There are 4 ‘carshare’ stops in and around the village, for passenger pick-up and drop-off:

  • 1 at the bus-stop in La Daille, in the downhill direction
  • 1 at the bus station
  • 1 at the ‘rond-point des pistes’ roundabout
  • 1 at Le Fornet near the gondola lift

Stopping time at these locations is 10 minutes maximum. Parking is not allowed and the driver must be present in the vehicle.

The Haute Tarentaise local council community has joined forces with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional council to provide you with a local carshare service to meet increasing travel needs, with MOV’ICI.

Val d’Isère is located

  • 30 km from Bourg Saint Maurice (40 minutes)
  • 86 km from Albertville (1h20)
  • 135 km from Chambéry (2h)
  • 165 km from Grenoble (2h30)
  • 240 km from Lyon (3h)
  • 220 km from Geneva (3h)

Traffic info

To avoid the heavy holiday traffic on Saturdays, consider leaving or arriving in Val d’Isère on a different day. For example, you could book your stay from Sunday to Sunday.

Iseran Pass

The Col de l’Iseran mountain pass road is closed in winter. After the winter season, it opens sometime in juin depending on snow-clearing progress at the pass, and closes in autumn sometime in October or November, depending on snowfall.

Coming by plane

If you live a long way away, then flying might be your only solution for a revitalising holiday in the mountains. We have 4 international airports in the surrounding area:

Onward travel by bus is then available from these airports to Val d’Isère with Altibus or Ben’s bus. For a completely stress-free trip, opt for a transfer by taxi. You’ll find our multilingual partners on this page.
