Take to the summits

Admire the view from the top!

Gentle walk on the banks of Ouillette lake

Looking for the ideal walk to enjoy a quiet picnic and a chance to relax in a lounger? Head for Ouillette lake, a beautiful spot set 2,500 metres above sea level on the Solaise mountain! You can reach it by car via the Iseran Pass, or by taking the Solaise gondola lift. It’ll take you about 45 minutes to walk around the lake. After stretching your legs, make yourself comfortable on the terrace of the Ouillette restaurant to enjoy delicious grills while gazing at the uninterrupted panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.

From Ouillette Lake to the Manchet Valley

This summer, escape on the trail leading from Ouillette lake to the Manchet valley, for a walk of about 1 hour 40 minutes. You can take the Solaise gondola lift to reach the starting point of this family walk down to the Manchet Valley, and stop at the Arsellaz farm for a delicious break along the way. Down in the valley, the children can enjoy all sorts of activities at the sports park and you can admire the majestic scenery from the sunny terrace of the restaurant “Au bout du monde”. To return to the village, you can either walk (20 minutes) or take the bus.

Le Rocher de Bellevarde

From the top of the Olympique cable car, you can walk to the top of the Rocher de Bellevarde for a panoramic view that’ll take your breath away. The ascent will take you about 30 minutes.

  • Safety: by using the lifts, you’ll avoid fatigue and the dangers of a challenging climb, which means you can enjoy your walk to the full and in safe conditions.

Our walks Around the village

At Fornet, in the Manchet Valley, at La Daille, or on the 7 Chapels circuit, choose your area!

Exploring Fornet

Foodie walk: if you’re into heritage as well as French gastronomy, head for Le Fornet for an authentic experience in this village of stone houses with flagstone roofs. Here, you can enjoy a meal at the Bistrot Gourmand de la Maison Benoît Vidal. Le Fornet Waterfall: if you have 30 minutes to spare, the Iseran stream that flows down from the pass of the same name leads to a beautiful waterfall that’s well worth seeing for the stunning, perspective landscape views it offers. That’s if you aren’t distracted by the sound of the gushing water. Le Fornet to St Charles Bridge: From the picturesque hamlet of Le Fornet, heading towards the Iseran Pass, you’ll come to a bridge, the Pont Saint Charles. This walk of 1 hour 45 minutes reveals a superb panoramic view over the nearby mountains. Don’t be surprised to come across a few herds of grazing animals! Le Fornet via the pastures: this lovely walk takes you from the village centre along the river Isère to the charming hamlet of Le Laisinant, then across pastures grazed by cattle and horses. From the riverbank you’ll enjoy views of the surrounding mountains on your way to the typical hamlet of Le Fornet. This walk takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Unspoilt beauty of the Manchet Valley

The Manchet Valley is one of the must-sees of Val d’Isère and an ideal place for family walks. Don’t forget to stop for a break at L’Art Des Mets, a restaurant deep in the valley, or take a quick dip in the swimming pool at the Relais. Foodie walk: those in the know will tell you that the Arsellaz farm is a great place to visit not just during the day, but in the evening too. From the end of the Manchet valley it’ll take you no more than 30 minutes to walk there under the light of the moon or with a headlamp. Follow the road leading to the alpine chalet, where Marie-Pierre and her family will prepare you a typical meal from the Tarentaise mountains, a stone-grilled dish followed by a delicious blueberry tart for dessert.

La Daille Between springs and forest

Springs trail: On the left bank of the Isère, between Le Crêt and la Daille, there are lots of springs dotted across the meadows and the larch wood, one of the village’s most relaxing places to read a good book or enjoy a stroll when you don’t feel like scrambling up a mountain. La Daille loop trail: From Le Crêt or La Daille, this lovely 3-km family walk (about 50 minutes) takes you along the Isère riverbank and across fields at the foot of the impressive Picheru peak. This is the ideal walk for families keen to reconnect with nature. The children will enjoy crossing the little bridges that straddle the streams flowing through the forest. On La Daille plain, you can then try the fitness trail on the banks of the Isère, where the whole family can let off steam.

Trek Nature Grand Paradis Vanoise

Discover spectacular hiking routes that take you into the Vanoise National Park and the Grand Paradis National Park which straddles the border between France and Italy! Unguided or in the company of a mountain guide, you’ll take 5 to 6 days, on average, to complete this 116-km loop itinerary between the French and Italian Alps. Get ready to enjoy superb scenery as you cross the national parks, panoramic views from the summits, and well-earned rests in the mountain refuges.
