Vanoise National Parkan exceptional space
France’s first national park, it was created in 1963 as a continuation of Italy’s Gran Paradiso Park to protect the ibex. Together, they form one of the most important protected areas in Western Europe. Since its creation, it has been home to a nature reserve of unrivalled biodiversity, including 1,400 plant species and 65 protected species. The park, which covers 50% of the Val d’Isère municipality, is also a place of discovery to be enjoyed on a daily basis. More than 400 km of marked trails and 40 refuges allow you to explore and marvel at this unique ecosystem. Val d’Isère lies on the Italian border, where the PNV meets the Grand Paradis: an ideal gateway to discover the immensity of this protected area.
Two evening screeningsmeet the park's wildlife
On July 17, 2023, at the Centre des Congrès, spectators will be able to set off on a “Discovery of the mythical animals of our mountains” thanks to the screening of three documentaries by director Erik Lapied:
– “Zorra et le clan des renards” (55 min) for children and their parents at 6pm,
– 60th anniversary film (8 min) followed by “La fabuleuse histoire du gypaète” (52 min) for the general public from 8pm.
A time for discussion is planned with the public after each of the two screenings, in the company of the director, a wildlife specialist and a PNV warden.
Second event on July 24, at the Maison de Val, for an evening of offbeat cinema on the theme of nature, in partnership with Cinécyclo. This participatory cinema evening concept invites the public to pedal to provide the energy needed for the screening.
A photo contestto rediscover our natural heritage
From July 6 to August 5, a major photo competition is being held on the theme of “Val d’Isère and the PNV – 60 years of nature-sized wonder”. There’s just one rule: photos must showcase the commune’s natural heritage or actions to preserve and enhance that same heritage. Participants’ photos will contribute to a digital mosaic. Each photograph will form a piece of the final puzzle, the image of which will be revealed at the end of the competition.
Open to all, the competition will close with a prize-giving ceremony at the Foire Avaline, where a jury of elected officials and the public will reward the best shots. A camera, weekends exploring the park with a guide or a photography course are up for grabs.
The winning photos will then be exhibited in the commune throughout the winter season. More info and contest rules at valdisere.fr.
