Summer skiing

Summer skiing 2024: from Saturday June 8th to Sunday July 7th ⛷️

The geographical location of Val d’Isère offers us good snow quality, if all conditions allow, we strap on the skis under the summer sun and we’ll race down the slopes of the glacier!

Skiing in June on the glacier

During June, cyclists, motorcyclists, car drivers and skiers will be able to reach the Col de l’Iseran from Val d’Isère, the only access to the Pisaillas glacier where summer skiing has been practiced since the late 1960s. The road on the Bonneval-sur-Arc side is also open to allow you to go for a ride on the Maurienne side.

At the Pisaillas glacier this summer, you can ski between 3300 and 2725m of altitude until mid-July. The parking lot at the foot of the glacier is accessible from the Col de l’Iseran, there is the Cascade Restaurant as well as the ski pass sales point at the foot of the chairlift of the same name. On the top of the glacier are the Montets pickaxes (ski lifts) that lead to the highest point.

⚠️ Warning, this information is subject to change depending on snow conditions.

A piece of history

July 1937, route 202, the highest in Europe linking Val d’Isère and Bonneval-sur-Arc via the Col de l’Iseran, is inaugurated by the president of the republic Albert Lebrun. On this occasion, the Avalins organized the first summer skiing competition in Europe on the Pisaillas glacier. The skiers of the French team and some internationals take off from the top of the Montet peak for the Grand Prix de l’Iseran.

Summer 1963, the road between the Col de l’Iseran and the foot of the Pisaillas glacier is developed to facilitate access to summer skiing.

Summer 1966, the Grand Prix de l’Iseran organized on the glacier of Val d’Isère brings together the teams of the Alpine arc. The Pisaillas is then equipped with a chairlift and three lifts. Young international skiers come to train in Val d’Isère.
