What to do during The spring off-season May and June

Discover a world in full transformation in spring and take time to admire these beautiful mountains. In the off-season, the village empties out to make way for nature to take its turn. The snow melts and the flora blooms, herds of ibex descend from the peaks and marmots emerge from their burrows; peace and tranquility arrive.

Taking the time to blossom May 6 to June 28, 2024: the spring off-season

Before the summer season gets into full swing, it’s time to recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, take time to think about yourself and reconnect with nature!
Here’s a compilation of things to do in Val d’Isère in May and June.

Open addresses in the village

Bars, restaurants, bakeries, hotels, shops, medical center, etc. Find out more about the (non-exhaustive) list of businesses open during the off-season.

Are you familiar with our summer program? Foire Savoyarde Avaline, High Trail Vanoise, fête du vieux Val … there’s something for everyone!

What to do in the off-season Ideas are here!

  • In May, we recommend the south-facing sentier des balcons, one of the first accessible hikes as the snow melts faster. From June onwards, enjoy the superb Parc National de la Vanoise! This jewel of Savoie, with its 1,979 km² spread between the Maurienne and Tarentaise regions, offers hiking itineraries where you can spot incredible flora and fauna, including bearded vultures, eagles, ibex, chamois and marmots!
  • The Col du Petit St Bernard to Italy opens in June, depending on weather conditions, as does the Col de l’Iseran, so take advantage of this opportunity to discover sublime landscapes cut off from the world. Accessible by car or bike, these passes are only open for a few months of the year! The Solaise area offers a wide range of hikes, including a stroll around Lac de l’Ouillette and, for paragliders, the possibility of taking off from the take-off point behind the lake and landing at Le Manchet.
  • Did you know that you can sleep in an unguarded refuge? During the off-season, the Fond des Fours and Prariondrefuges remain open! After your stay, go to this platform to pay (which helps guarantee the upkeep of our refuges).
  • OnSundayJune 16, the flower market takes place in Val Village, giving you the chance to stroll around and take home a pretty bouquet of flowers!
  • The Vie Val D’Is association is preparing a special evening for the Fête de la Musique on Friday June 21! Join us at Pumptrack from 1pm to celebrate the start of summer with music.
  • The sporting event not to be missed if you’re a cyclist: L’iserane! Join us on Sunday June 23 to take on Europe’s highest road pass at 2770m! Every year, on the occasion of the Iserane, the climb from Val d’Isère to Bonneval sur Arc, via the Col de l’Iseran, is reserved for cyclists.

Thrills and spills! Climbing peaks and admiring the view!

Climb to the top of the cliff on one of our Via Ferrata courses! Don’t forget to bring your own safety equipment. The via ferrata routes open as early as June, but we sometimes have to postpone the opening date because we have to wait for the little lammergeiers to take flight. The Daille cliffs are perfect nesting places for bearded vultures 🙂
